Simalarities

  1. It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Ellington. I have heard about your great works, an I have longed to hear them...but now I have. It's a whole different style of what I work with, but I adore it all the same.

Hmm...we are both composers...now that we are. Being composers, we bth suffered through the terrible events of the wars...either if we were in them, or suffered through the terrible economy. We might not have worked together, but we orked through about the same things.

  2. It's so interesting to hear about your career. It seems to me that since we are both musicians, we would have a lot in common. I think we both have a very strong drive to succeed. We both feel the need to practice long hours and constantly push ourselves.

  3. Definitly Marie! Violin and Piano are the top instruments a lot of cats play these noise-makers. I just thought I'd make my noise-maker into a work of art such as you did! And Igor! An idol to musicians everywhere now! Writing such masterpeices. I have a passion for writing music like you, sir. And conducting to but I'd rather multi-task and conduct whilst I jam!

  4. Duke Ellington? A name I’m familiar with but a story I did not know.. Until now. So let’s see, I guess I will start off by saying we are two very similar people because we are both professionals who studied sharply and discretely. We used our time to the best of our advantage and despite everything that was going on in the world (severe segregation and injustice for you, and economic downfall for I) we both didn’t let that detour our passions and let that apply a stand-still for what we longed to do.
Another way, in which, we are very similar is that during the political and economic stances of our time we both felt a sense of hopelessness. In your interview you stated that in America it felt like the economic situation was one of the worst.. And I felt the same way in France. Neither one of us had control over how the world was acting or what they were plotting next. We didn’t know if we’d wake to a better tomorrow or a more corrupt one. And for that reason we are alike in the way in which we both felt separated from the world and a bit helpless in that way.
And lastly, one thing that is very similar between us is our mind-sets as trend-setters. You started a deeper trend in the jazz world as did I in the world of Fashion. You had “The Ellington Orchastra” and I had “Vionnet” both being names many people of the world recognize. For all the reasons stated above we are similar. And I’m thankful to be similar with someone as enterprising, industrious and vigorous as you, Mr.Ellington.
